DIVA

The museum of diamonds, jewelery and silver in Antwerp, DIVA, opened a new exhibition on jewelery from the 60s and 70s at the end of last year. I already visited this exhibition in the first week, but I have only now found the time to write about it (exams etc …). The exhibition will run until March 14.

The Jeweller’s Art

The exhibition has been developed in collaboration with the Cincinnati Art Museum in the United States. The more than 100 jewels come from the private collection of Kimberly Klosterman. The exhibition not only shows jewelery, but also music, fashion and design from this period. Be sure to pay attention to the chairs, such as the one by Pierre Paulin.

Revolutionary jewellery from the 1960s & 1970s

In the 1960s, a new trend within the jewelery industry emerged in London. Young designers saw themselves as artists and created organic and asymmetrical shapes. The jewelery designers broke with traditions and were often inspired by nature. In addition to gold, unconventional materials were sometimes used.

Light installation Transito

In the third room of the exhibition there is a light installation. This is designed by Space Encounters and Children of the Light. It is constructed as a kind of labyrinth with light and sound effects. One moment it feels like a black hole and the next you are absorbed by the light. Christopher Gabriel from Children of the Light puts it this way:

In this installation, Children of the Light and Space Encounters approach light as an element with sculptural properties, in which the pillars and the entire space deform into a ‘fluid’ architecture.
