Geukens & De Vil
Now’s the time to visit the KMSKA. The exhibition halls are hosting a magnificent exhibition with works from Hans Op de Beeck. But also explore the historic rooms, where you’ll find 37 additional works of art from private collections.
Yasmine Geukens and Marie-Paule De Vil of Geukens & De Vil Projects have 30 years of experience in the art world. You might remember them from the Ecce Homo and Finis Terrae art circuits in Antwerp, where contemporary art was presented at special locations throughout the city. With “Visionary Collected,” pieces from private collections are placed in dialogue with Old Masters in the museum’s historic halls.
Private collections
Geukens and De Vil visited some 20 private collections and selected 37 works from 17 collectors. Some were too fragile to exhibit, while others were indispensable to their owners.
By integrating contemporary artworks within the existing themes of the historic rooms, a new perspective on these works emerges. It’s fascinating to see how some works fit together, even though there’s likely no direct connection between them. The brochure is a real added value and one you can keep. Unfortunately, there’s no catalog.
Top artists
This exhibition features both familiar and lesser-known names. My favorites:
- The Private Museum (Elmgreen & Dragset): a vault… in a museum…
- Lighthouse (Olafur Eliasson) beautiful setting with the light forming a triangle on the walls and floor
- Heaven (DD Trans) look for this one, because the typical surreal element is a bit hidden…
- The Devil’s Dress (Michaël Borremans) and Devil Enters Town in Disguise (Nick Cave) are great and hang in my favorite room ‘Evil’
- We The People (Danh Vo) the manufacturing techniques and materials of the Statue of Liberty
- Weed (Tony Matelli) unfortunately, it’s quite expensive to buy, otherwise I would definitely wanted this one. Note: it’s in bronze!
Guided tours
You’ll also see me there as a guide or to come and see the works again. If you’d like a guided tour, indicatie my name when booking or send me an email.
